🏃 ‍ ♂️ The Rome Marathon, a sports monument

The history of the Rome Marathon began in the early 1980s but, at the time, the organizers had a lot of trouble drawing crowds, so between 1992 and 1994 the marathon was cancelled. The Ordeal seems destined to disappear... Only in 1995, a new organizing committee took over and brought the race back to life! The Rome Marathon was reborn from the ashes in 1995! For this first real edition, it was the Ethiopian Belayneh Tadesse who won in 2 hours 10 minutes and 13 seconds! Indeed, the event did not stop growing to the point that on January 1, 2000, it was Pope John Paul II who himself would kick off this race in Saint Peter's Square. Today, no less than 15,000 people gather every year to run in the Eternal City! The Rome Marathon has also become the most popular running event in Italy.

🏛 A multitude of monuments

Rome is a real open-air museum! The Colosseum, Circo Massimo, Castel Sant Angelo, Vatican City, Saint Peter's Basilica... If you ever have a few cramps (you never know), all you have to do is raise your head and open your eyes wide to forget the effort!

⚔️ The particularities of the course

Finishing the Rome Marathon is well deserved because the race is unusual! It's true, between the cobblestones, the small climbs (especially the 30 km one), the right angle turns... the least we can say is that you need character to overcome these 42.195 kilometers! But we also know that nothing really scares the running gladiator that you are, right? Although some difficulties will arise on your way, the Rome Marathon is still very rolling! Moreover, he was for a long time one of the fastest in Italy with the victory in 2009 of the Kenyan Kiptoo Koulum who won the event in 2 hours 7 minutes and 17 seconds!

🛩️ The Italian Patrol

One of the highlights of the marathon at 8:01am: the flight over the starting line (2 more times) by the Les Frecce Tricolori 🇮🇹 (tricolor arrows). Thrills Guaranteed for Runners... It is also impressive for the escorts who will not be on the starting line and who will hear these fighter planes when they wake up!

The Rome Marathon is very popular with runners! Between the absolutely fabulous setting of the race, the impeccable organization of the event and the generally mild weather for the month of March... it is easy to understand why every year 25,000 people gather (all events combined) to try to be Finishers.

Organized for 40 years now, the organizers of the Rome Marathon have not stopped working to make this event an absolutely incredible race! Almost every year, the course has been redesigned to allow runners to discover this fantastic city in the best conditions!
